In 1905 Madame C.J Walker’s hair fell out. She was unable to find any products to help her afro hair grow back, so she decided to create a line of haircare products for afro hair. She travelled the country giving African American women advice on how to take care of their hair and use her products.
Her products were so wonderful that she later became America’s first self-made female millionaire!
Madame Walker is also well known for her charity work, she notably donated large sums of money to start the Indianapolis YMCA which was a charity created to help people in the community.
Madame CJ Walker said: “I had to make my own living and my own opportunity. But I made it! Don't sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them.”
