Marcus Garvey believed that African/ African American people should be able to return to their home lands after slavery had separated them from their countries, homes, families and cultures.
Marcus Garvey started the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) which was an association focused on the independence and personal growth of black people. It has been noted that Marcus Garvey united over 6 million black men and women in pride and togetherness through his ideas and speeches. Marcus’ ideas inspired future leaders such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr.
