The extremely intelligent Euphemia Haynes broke barriers and exceeded the expectations of many by becoming the first African American woman to gain a PhD in Mathematics. Not satisfied with her overwhelming academic achievements, Euphemia spent nearly 50 years devoting her time and expertise to teaching Math and English to African American students. During her 47 year long career Euphemia worked as a professor of Math, English and business as well as teaching she worked tirelessly to fight against the segregated school system she also worked to improve the quality of schools and teaching for African American students who struggled with money.
